Do you guys know anyone that has made this move? I am seriously considering this. City where I live, police start off 80k a year and work only 3 days a week (12hr shifts). You get to be outdoors, do not have to type bullshit motions or do discovery.

It isn't terribly unusual at all to see federal agency attorneys go into federal LE 1811 officer positions. They are fucking pimps dude. Best job out there if you're disposed to that sort of work. They are legit.

tons of people do apply for these jobs. I think the acceptance rate for the LAPD is around 5 percent.

Yup, it's a travesty. These cities/states deserve to go bankrupt. Why would they ever need to start them so high? Even if you buy the argument of it being a difficult/dangerous/essential/noble/etc. position worthy of high pay, why not start them off at 49k with generous 8k a year raises petering off at the 100k range. They'd still get tons of qualified applicants, officers a couple of years in wouldn't feel like their earning were stagnant, and it would save a bundle.
