what about if the interview is for something where you are the only one interviewing and basically you're interviewing against yourself. how do you make the best out of such a situation? |

i think my worst interviews have been the ones where i try to do too much. recognizing that they already think you're qualified based on bringing you in to the interview is key. they just want to make sure you want the job for the right reasons, would be a good fit. have nice answers prepared to the "why this area of law" "why this firm" type questions that ALWAYS get asked. |

i attach my resume but i sometimes wonder if the HR person assumes i have more experience than i do or something. i dunno. maybe not, but sometimes the attorneys who are interviewing are like "oh so you just graduated" when they look at the resume during interview lol |

the way I saw it in my class was like this. Very few biglaw/regional biglaw. Probly top half of class could/did take state court clerkships if they wanted them. A few fed district clerks. Lots of unemployeds until the bar, then a lot gave up and drifted into shitlaw. Lots of doc reviewers, several people I knew threw down for dat LLM or some bullshit.
based on what I see/hear, a lot are still unemployed. The school really pushed its own "we hire you for a few thousand bucks and count you as employed" fellowships, or else those cheesy americore type shits that pay peanuts but keep you busy. When that all dries up, the class of 2012 will be out there and no one will care about 2011ers. |

Some gave up and went into other professions. Others just drifted from one shitlaw job to the next, doing doc review in between. That is the life for most lawyers. |

Another guy also didnt have a job lined up. He passed the CA bar but just drifted. He was in SHITLAW, then got canned. He worked lots of doc review. He hated law with a passion and just hated having gone to LS. He ended up getting a decent gov non-law job and he's doing that.
Then I know some ppl who went to SHIT law schools, and they are the ones relaly fucked. Know some chick who basically just drifts from shitlaw to shitlaw. To temp shit, part time shit, doc review shit. It is all shit. She never really has had a real long term permanent job since she graduated in 2006.
That is really how a majority of ppl's careers pan out. It is just shit to shit to shit to shit. |
