My GPA's bad and I don't see it getting to that magic top quarter even though I am studying like crazy this semester.

Since I'm not going to be hired what should I do? Drop out after this year? I've got a Half-Scholarship at In-state tuition rates and I'm reluctant to leave for that reason. I'd be thrilled to get a 60k job after passing the bar. But I have literarlly no idea how I'd go about doing that, or what I'd possibly do my 2L summer.

What other midwest T25 is there? I guess maybe Notre Dame, but they don't divide themselves by quartiles like Minnesota does. OP goes to Minnesota, very obviously.

Anyway, advice to you is to drop out. Maybe see if you can get law review, but if you're not top 10%, having law review won't help and honestly, its just mean and inconsiderate to take a law review spot from a person who would be more likely to get a job, but is just at the cusp of top 10%. Essentially, you'd be taking two people down by taking a law review spot instead of just bowing out gracefully.

bust your ass to raise gpa. plenty of people who get crummy gpa's while putting in little work are actually capable of a lot more if they try. however, trying is hard.

if you improve your grades but strike out at OCI, all is not lost; keep improving your gpa, and take some classes that are guaranteed A's with real ones like evidence or admin.

someone who graduates magna at a T25 is not life fucked, even if they had a bad semester and missed the OCI boat. there's clerkships, government jobs, smaller firms etc.

if you get shit grades this semester knowing full well that the wolves are at the door, then you're either malignantly lazy or just not that good at law. so reassess the situation in june.

If you stick it out, you need to start reaching out to ppl this summer. Go to career services and let them tell you all the gay networking options available to you. Start looking into law-related alternatives- gov't, consulting, compliance, finance, tax/CPA firm, trademark/patent stuff if that's in your background. Figure out how to spin your academic/professional background to sell yourself in one of those related areas. Take extra coursework if you need it and it makes sense (e.g. accounting courses online to get CPA eligible if you want to work in tax).
