I almost always feel unsure about whether I found the right answer when I do research assignments and half the time it takes forever to find a case that even tangentially talks about something similar to what the partner wants. Typical?

usually I try to find something that REMOTELY relates to what the partners ask, and email them with something like "I didn't find XXX, but I did see a case that say XXXY..."

If you're just doing key word searches on Westlaw or Lexis, you're going to waste a lot of time and not find everything.

You either need to use the electronic digest or the printed digests. The cases for every issue are already categorized.

If you use digests properly and can't find an on point case, you should be able to say with a high degree of confidence that such a case does not exist.
