Its hard to imagine a career with lower quality of life than a biglawer. It only gets worse as you advance, with more hours and more beta submission to horrible clients. Your coworkers are some o the most insecure douchebag assholes on on the planet, and several of your bosses are world-class pricks. You have no freedom and can be called to the office anywhere at ant time. Jesus.
And lol at having to bill. Good god.

Totally different career in another industry, more academic/intellectual than biglaw. Did it by good interview skills and ably selling myself. Stressed relevant experience I gathered in biglaw. Also, showing tremendous enthusiasm for the position and articulating why I wanted out of biglaw when several interviewers asked me that.

Getting blamed for shit that is not my fault. This happened several times. Pointing out why it wasn't my fault was completely futile and never resuming in acknowledgment or apology.
After some minor thing that offended a partner, experiencing a passive-aggressive cutting off of work, without any explanation or comment. Only at review time do I discover the alleged misstep.
Also at review time, being blindsided by accusations from one anonymous partner reviewer that I had dropped the ball on some shit when I went on vacation. This was news to me and when I pressed the partner giving my review for more details I was told that the reviewing partner had heard this from another associate. So some associate was talking shit about me behind my back to a reviewing partner, and since it's all anonymous I cannot defend myself. Partner giving review was like "well we never really go on vacation...you're expected to stay in communication at all times!"
Comments from senior associate questioning my ability to handle the work/pressure. This from chick who literally cried/had meltdowns at work several times a month.

The firm that no offered me told me that a "of counsel" said I was a hypochondriac. I had received a large spider bite and the partner on the assignment told me to just go to the hospital because it my foot could no longer fit in my shoe. But when it was review time, the partner was out on vacation so the "of counsel" prick sunk me.
