the disparity is falling dramatically, i'm guessing accountants it's pretty close to 50/50 if you look at 30 somethings and younger, and for dentists, google it it used to be like 15/85, it's 35/65, and i'm guessing with the competition increase the level of service in these fields has increased. |

if you have a wife that say makes... 3,000 a month, in all likelihood she's gonna turn into a stay at home mom because her income just doesn't justify staying in the workforce, i mean day care alone is gonna eat up 1,000 bucks.
if your wife works biglaw tho, well it makes more sense if she continues working, depending on how much value you put on a mother being at home with their kid |

You would be a much better person if your parents hadn't been prole trash. My mother worked her stupid SWPL job, which meant she came home tired and inattentive, picked fights with my dad, made life generally miserable for all of us. Unsurprisingly, they divorced.
My cousins were raised by a stay-at-home mom who focused on keeping fit, cleaning the house, and cooking good food. Unsurprisingly, she's still married and her family is happy. |

but for the US, we have a staggering rate of divorce, a high rate of single motherhood and unstable families, a birth rate that is both falling below replacement level AND where the remaining fertility is tilted toward the lower classes, and middle class wage stagnation since the 1970's.
these are serious problems. not all of them would be addressed or could be changed much via the percentage of women in the workplace, but it's clear that certain societal goals are probably contradictory in nature (eg, encourage both strong stable families and universal female labor force participation). |

this wasn't something that came naturally in the US - there was social and religious opposition in some quarters, for instance - but the demands of the economic system were very clear, and all noneconomic considerations were basically shoved aside by the lords of marketing and the captains of capital of that era.
they wanted more consumers and more workers, tradition be damned. |
