how does he she like it? employment prospects post the volunteer term? how crazy would one be to depart a 115k job in an undesirable location (and undesirable practice area) for something like this?

I think, as a general rule, they require you to actually work for the federal government already to get a SAUSA gig. It's fairly common among JAGs, and the obvious prospect there is that they can parlay it into an AUSA gig if they choose to separate from JAG. The ones I knew liked it, but seemed like a lot of work in addition to their day job.

I just quickly skimmed LinkedIn out of curiosity, and I didn't find a single SAUSA in my network who's not working for the feds already. So yeah, don't quit your day job.

I don't think this is true. Every uncompensated SAUSA position I have seen has explicitly stated that the person cannot be employed for compensation in any other capacity. While JAGS can be SAUSAs, we are talking about *uncompensated SAUSAs* here.

Well you asked who was a special ausa bro, and we told you.

If you're looking for advice on whether you should commit to one of those yearlong programs where there is an explicit guarantee that you will not be hired, then my advice is no.

It's so sad that you had to spell-out what should be common sense.

"Don't take year long job where they EXPLICITLY tell you that you won't get hired."

As mentioned below those are basically your two kinds of sausas bro.

Lots of TTTers slobbered over those unpaid yearlong SAUSAs when they first came out, it was the closest shot at dat lay Law & Order preftige they were ever gonna get.

Aren't there two types of SAUSA's? One is where the AUSA's have a case where they need the assistance of another agency so an attorney(s) from that agency gets "deputized" as an AUSA so they can appear in court, write briefs, etc. The other is the program where they let people work for free.
