I got an offer about a week ago at Firm A. Firm A is still doing background check/conflicts check, etc., and no official start date is set.

Meanwhile, before and since this offer, I was interviewing at other firms. I got another offer for about 30K more that I want to take.

How bad is it to back out of Firm A and tell them I found something better?

Take the better offer. Who gives a fuck about firm A. They wouldn't think twice about no-offering or shitcanning associates if it would gain them 30K.

This. They would have no loyalty to you if you'd worked there a decade... why should you have loyalty before you even start?

Take the second offer. It's just fucking business. As the poaster above indicated, Firm A would buttfuck you in a heartbeat if it worked to their advantage.

Why don't you just refer to your employment contract? Don't have one? That's because the initial firm wants to be able to shitcan you whenever they want.

Thanks for the advice in this thread. I think the environment may be slightly better in Firm A but I'm not sure about that anyway and at this point in my life the money is more important.

Bonus structure in Firm B could make it more like a 50K or more difference.

I'm about 90% sure I'll be calling Firm A Monday morning to turn it down. Firm B's offer is official, they already did the checks they are going to do.

Just show up 4 days a week at firm B and 3 days at firm A for a few months. Tell them you're having medical troubles but are making the work up from home/anticipate getting better soon. The weekend time will solidify your ruse. By the time you get canned at A you'll have copped $$$ for little additional work. Then segue back into fulltime at Firm B. Profit.

this is why you all are poor.

tell Firm A that you got a better offer. ask them to BEAT the offer (or match it), or you'll go to the other firm. make it a bidding war.

(you all are retarded. that has to be repeated.)

I guess it is implied you actually accepted Firm A's offer? If so, there are ways to go about backing out, but you don't do it with a phone call. It is a bit delicate, and you don't want to piss people off, seriously.

I would talk to someone IRL -professor, career services, etc about it.
