srsly cs is a good choice. u don't have to talk to anyone else in the dept--i don't. however, google/ms/fb/etc. are not credited unless ur a superstriver/competitive/REALLY love cs, none of which is becoming for a female. she should land a cushy govt or contracting jerb or a spot at a big, well-established company not as selective as google etc., like hp. or she can program for, like, ANY company in ANY industry. or she can just do consulting or finance; those ppl like quant majors (but again, striverish, unbecoming). possibilities are endless.

Uh, I don't know what brown's CS program is like, but there is absolutely no way you are going to get a CS degree without spending a bunch of time working with peers on projects and shit. Most girls I know who did say they felt marginalized cause dudes would just assume they didn't know anything.

Even with your own experiences, can't you see why girls would be turned off by the major? No one wants to be treated like an idiot. It's not just an issue of thick skin, either: if I were a girl, I'd start to suspect the entire tech industry was like that.

PHARMACY. Steady hours, never take home work with you. In particular, if she can land Pharm position at a hospital vs. a CVS she's set. For sure she'll never be unemployed and can easily enter - exit (for first 5 yrs of kid) - re-enter the field without issue.

2nd suggestion is Phys. Asst. My dad doesn't think too highly of them, but hospitals and practices are hiring more and more.

The kicker is that she'll have an "in" into the local medical providers and services, so if future husband or kiddos get sick it'll be possible to circumvent scheduling BS, etc.

As a med student, I second the PA/NP idea. 90% of the authority of a physician with less than half the schooling. Good hours and decent pay too.

Pharmacy works only if you actually snag one of the decent jobs.
