Now, speaking for reptiles in general, it wasn't so long ago that we were seeing news stories of busloads of Canadians coming to the US for treatment because our hospitals and healthcare are superior to theirs. People understand that there's a give-and-take when it comes to free v. pay healthcare. Some reptiles are unwilling to sacrifice good care for universal care, especially since our current (former now, I guess) system allows anyone to receive emergency medical treatment without insurance.
Obviously this doesn't apply to the ACA since that isn't a true universal system, so you can save yourself the time of citing to it in response to this post. |

B) The American system is not better, I am fairly clear about this. My point is that right now the poor have access to whatever they want and the middle class have to limit their HC expenditures due to cost. If you move to the Uni system, the MC no longer needs to worry about the direct expenditure, but they will have to worry about not getting/having to wait months for the care that they do need. |

And, Canada is not the only universal healthcare system. Australia's system would work well here. Provide baseline Medicare and then mandate that people who can afford it buy supplemental private insurance (they have a tax penalty for people above a certain income level who don't buy private insurance). Even then, the private insurance is cheap compared to the US. We could still have private insurers and providers while providing baseline Medicare to everyone. It makes sense and it doesn't require dismantling our entire healthcare industry. |

I think this needs to be repeated: I am not suggesting that Canada is better (or worse) than America is right now w/r/t HC. All I am saying is that Uni HC is already similarly as horrible and this is with a smaller society with a lot fewer moochers and more social cohesion. |

Finally I got taken in. The nurse took my Bp and it was, shit you not, 200/150. The nurse goes holy fuck, we'll get you a doctor asap. Didn't get a doctor for another hour. Then they DIDN'T HAVE FUCKING ROOM IN THE HOSPITAL FOR ME, SO THEY PUT ME ON A GURNEY IN THE FUCKING HALLWAY FORTY FEET FROM THE DOOR THAT OPENS TO THE HELICOPTER AREA, AND IT WAS WINTER AND THE COLD AIR CAME AND FROZE MY GODDAMN BALLS OFF WHILE I LISTENED TO THE ROAR OF THE HELICOPTER ARRIVING AND LEAVING OVER AND OVER AND MY BP WAS 200/150 Finally, after being there for about 7-8 hours, they shot me up with some drugs that made my BP return to normal. They gave me some meds and sent me home. BTW this town has three hospitals, so it wasn't some buttfuckistan. Oh yeah, and then they discharged me while I was woozy on Benadryl and shit, could barely walk straight. Had to figure out who to call on my own, could barely dial the phone number, and in my ride home, I couldn't even hold a conversation with the driver. |

I do not want to pay a lot more in taxes for a single payer system where I cant get better health care than homeless people unless I double pay for a super expensive private plan, or pay out of pocket.
I've had 4 MRI's in my life and never had to wait more than a week for them. I would like to continue to have that opportunity. |

And corporations would have the excess revenue to pay, so after an adjustment period of people leaving for higher paying jobs or getting raises, you would end up with wages that would bring both employers and employees back to roughly the same poast-tax position s when the corporate income tax existed. The same thing would happen with healthcare, which is just a head tax charged to employers. |

We got an email from our insurance provider we deal with giving us an update because of the SCOTUS decision (I felt pretty awesome because right before the email came out, I had sent an email to the founders letting them know the questions/issues still pending and reassuring them we had time before anything shitty happens, essentially predicting the entire contents of the email from our insurer).
