Because, sometimes, making the questionable argument forces the judge to either address that argument, or resolve the case on a basis more favorable to you.

Because the other side has fewer resources.

That said, those are not usually good reasons and it usually doesn't help (and might hurt) your case.

I have seen some pretty far out arguments that actually worked, or were to preserve an argument on appeal. I still have figured out why.
