not doing too well at my current firm and having little to no luck finding other firm offers. what are the pros/cons to riding this out until i get fired and then start collecting unemployment while i do a concerted search? is that just stupid as shit?
edit - i make 100k now and would prob pull 300-400/week in unemployment. i have a wife.

how the fuck do i find a job? i went to a decent non-t14 school and landed in a firm despite some pretty bad grades. but despite sending my resume to a few firms and recruiters, nothing has worked out.

Clear all your social plans and sit the fuck down and spend the next month clearing that pile. You'll hate it but not half as much as you'll hate being assfucked by ITE.
Or, if you're not really going to do this, then really start (keep?) doing jack shit and enjoy the ride.

I mean realistically and logically, think about it this way. You are currently gainfully EMPLOYED and having a hard time finding a job.
Now imagine if you were unemployed and looking. Nobody will even want to interview you.

Dooder, let's try to get constructive.
Give me your stats, size of firm, what type of work you do, how long you've been working as an attorney, what region of country you are in, where you want to go, if you are willing to do non-legal work, etc.

Yea, Bar admissions will be tough. Few firms of that size want to hire laterals at your experience level that aren't already barred in their JDX. Why bother when there are tons of equally qualified applicants that are already barred.
I would do this:
(1) Look at going to another firm in your state, preferably one that has branch offices in a locale you are interested in. Hopefully transition into another office down the line.
(2) With your experience, look at large Securities Litigation type firms. Some of these firms have multiple offices around the country. So that could be an option.

good tips. thanks.
i think my first step should be to bill 300 this month - no matter what - and get back in the good graces of firm management. then i can take a more reasonable approach with the whole transferring jobs thing.

Yea, you deleted it but I think CA was on your list.
It's a huge state with really 4 distinct "legal markets" - LA/OC, San Diego, Central California (I'm basically including from Sacramento down to Inland Empire), and SF Bay Area.
Lot of diverse practices and places to live, so I would probably see if you can take and pass the CA bar first.

my whole issue w/ taking a 2nd bar is that my current firm may get suspicious. why is this dooder who practices in st louis taking the damn cali bar? they would know b/c they would get those verification sheets, etc. as part of bar registration

True, didn't think about that.
That's why Option 1 I presented above is probably the best, finding a firm you can latch on to that will let you transfer offices down the line.
Another thing is, it's been so long so I don't really remember - the whole verification and stuff, isn't that just for the moral application or whatever the f that was?
If you are just applying to take the Bar Exam and then take it, would they still be sending stuff to your firm?

If you went to a non Top 14 school and had bad grades yet still currently have a 100k Job that is salvageable if you work harder and bill more and there is more than enough work for you to bill more than you absolutely have to do that.
The job you are in is well above what someone could reasonably expect ITE with your credentials and your telling me its salvageable.
Turning things around at work and holding on to your current position is a million times more credited than anything else you could possibly be doing right now ITE.
If you can find another equivalent job now fine, but I don't see the point in that. You're not complaining about an awful work environment, shit partners, unreasonable demands.
You're unhappy cause you have too much work that piles up cause your not motivated to do it. Changing firms won't help with that. You current situation is easily a 9 or 10 / 10 given your credentials in this current economy. I don't care how green you think the grass might be on the other side of the fence your top priority by far has to be trying to hold on to your current position right now.
