what distance should an alpha train for? i think it should be anywhere from 800m-5000m. the reasoning is that sprints like 100m u either can run like a negro or you cannot. if you can, then you can probably excell at other sports that require those muscles like hockey or football... but an alpha footballer should still be able to run middle distance at a decent level. as such i present to you normatives for "master of sports" in diferent distances in russia:

800m=1:49. 1500m=3:46. 5000m=14:00.

and here is the lowest "rank" that would allow u to call yourself an "athlete": 800m=2:20, 1500m=4:45, 5000m=17:45.

i was recently able to run 800m in ~2:20. i havent run 5k timed for the last couple of years because i dont feel like doing enough volume to train for such distance. this is another reason why i think 800m is the better to distance to train for. it relies on your VO2max but does not require as much time. so i am thinking 2:00 for 800m, which is world class for a woman but slightly slower than an expert for a man, is good goal?

i havent been training regularly. just had plans to. obviously u do intervals if u want to improve. but if your goal is to max out 800m then u should do 200-400m intervals. whereas ive been doing 800m intervals. but i once i go back to school i might shorten it. long runs dont serve any purpose except to prevent injuries for when u do hard intervals.
