Is it CR to write "This issue here is . . . " for every issue?
Bar review class told us to do it. None of the essays on baressays.com do it, even the high scoring ones (although they're all essays from people who fail, so...).
whats the general consensus?

No, that is stupid. Just use heading. If the issue is willfulness, just have an underlined heading called "Intent," and then jump into "The elements of intent are . . . "

How much do they reward clean, competent writing? substantively, all the fucking essays from 55s to 70s look similar on baressays.com; havent really looked into quality of writing though.

you could but i don't think you have to and it sounds dumb
just do heading/sub-heading, rule statement, and then application. your application should just be: "Here, ...."

Nothing wrong with "The first issue is whether...", etc. But if you're using headings for every issue, which seems excessive to me, there's no need to repeat yourself.

feel like I prob failed the bar. My headings didn't really state the issues properly. Time Pressure got to me and I prob lost an easy .5 point on every issue I spotted.
