My manner of dress was bordering on military with a shemagh scarf, black fitted cap and MOLLE backpack with my hatchet strapped to the side. I debated wearing my Kabar at my side but decided against it because I'm not sure of the legality in such places. I did have it readily available at the top of my pack.

The interactions all followed the same pattern:

1) nignog sees me standing there

2) nignog struts up and gets in my field of view

3) I ignore, nignog becomes visibly agitated and begins acting more menacing to elicit a response

4) I look nignog in the eyes and don't flinch

At this point one of two outcomes were noted:

1) nignog doesn't see any fear in my eyes and probably realizes I will gladly gut him and hang his pelt on my mantle so wanders off, or

2) nignog doesn't see any fear in my eyes and does the RESPEK head nod. I nod back and he wanders off.

Another observation is that they try to get outside your direct field of view and behind you if they can. Being aware of the knockout game I prudently kept my back to a wall at all times.

In summary, dealing with the modern-day urban nignog is not too unlike being confronted with a wild dog: you need to assert the alpha status immediately by meeting eyes and communicating your intent to dominate.

sometimes I experience a moment of bonding with the blacks when we both look at the asses of white or latina women and catch eachother staring - I break the tension by giving a thumbs up and we both do the YNY head bob and go about our merry way.
