Here's my situation: Ivy undergrad, T2 law school (went b/c of full ride), immediately went to T1 tax LLM. Graduated law school cum laude with 3.6, currently coasting with a 3.8 on the LLM. Pre-law school work experience was basically the boring old Wall Street investment banking schtick (meh... made good $, but so boring). During 1L and 2L summers I worked for a solo practitioner b/c it was the best offer I got that paid a decent $25/hr.

Anyway, I just got called into an interview with a BigLaw firm. I am taking a class with the managing partner of this BigLaw firm's regional office. We grabbed lunch and he asked for my resume. I sent it to him, and a few weeks later the firm's recruiter emails me asking for transcripts. I sent them along and immediately was asked to schedule an interview with the office's other co-managing partner. The partner I will be interviewing with for "30 - 45 minutes" runs the office's corporate practice, which is what the firm is known for in this market.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some insight into this situation (non-OCI, interview with one top level partner). I'm pretty excited but nervous at the same time. I've never done a BigLaw interview before so any tips would be wonderful and greatly appreciated.

i went to a lower T50, and my 1L year, my girlfriend's dad told me he did the taxes of a biglaw partner and did he want him to pass my info along to the guy. lol. he probably gave my info to the dude, who threw it straight in the garbage.

well, if not flame, interviewing for these positions without any real exp to talk about fucking sucks. it's way easier when you have already worked at a firm for a few yrs and you can just bullshit about matters you've worked on. fucking sucks when you have to talk about vague shit like "what's interesting in your classes!" and shit.

it really helps if you actually do have a specific interest. then you can just get into asking him a lot of questions about how it "works in the real world" and shit and you can demonstrate some of your knowledge of the area.

If not flame, just try to get the interviewer to do all the talking. Make your answers as concise as possible and try to get him to ramble about stuff he really cares about.

this isn't always credited. this isn't a typical biglaw interview where it's yours to lose. this guy has an uphill battle to get hired, and he need to sell himself somewhat.

IDK, it sounds like the partner was actively requesting application materials from this guy. He must've seen something he liked to go out of his way to encourage this student to apply. So to me, this seems like a classic case of "yours to lose"

this is where sometimes xo fails. xo is so obsessed with generalizations that it can't possibly fathom exceptions to the rule. OPs scenario is unlikely, but it's plausible. just like an asian man having sex with a real-life vagina is plausible, even though extremely unlikely and xo would have you believe that it has literally never happened before.

it's plausible that a smaller regional biglaw office has a pretty leanly staffed especially because of ITE and might even have had further departures, and they have more work and a need for a junior person.
