Subject: seeking advice - maxing 401k on pslf

does it make sense if i am on pslf to try to lower agi by maxing 401k? assume loans of 100k at 6.5%, income between 60-80k, enough savings that maxing the 401k wouldn't affect daily life, and that matching from employer stops at 5k in this hypothetical. also assume that i'm comfortable staying at this employer through term of pslf (if it exists). thanks in advance brothers.

If your planning pslf then its a no brainer. As is anything else you can do to reduce aig. (Trad Ira, for example)

Most likely.

Also, depending on job security, consider copping a house to get that mortgage interest deduction.

why would i in this scenario? you were graced with like 2 or 3 % student loans. i would trade pslf for that right now.

If you're on IBR, add 15% to your highest income tax bracket to figiure out the tax you would be paying on funds you decline to put in the 401k. LOL!
