I know this topic has been covered here before, but I can't locate the threads ... I'm seeking advice/thoughts on spinning doc review on a resume. I'm a doc review lifer. I haven't even bothered looking for a job outside doc review in years. Anyway, the target job is low level local govt clerk type job. Thanks.

Manage and analyze all phases of discovery process in complex commercial litigation; propound and respond to requests for production, interrogatories, and subpoenas.

You have no clue what doc review entails. If he's going to lie, he might as well do it better.

I do plenty of doc review as a junior in biglaw, and this is accurate.

"propound and respond to requests for production, interrogatories, and subpoenas."

This aint doc review. That's lawyer work. Doc review is coding docs for relevance and privilege -- that's it. If you have to analyze facts (which is what responding to discovery is) that's not doc review.

If he's doing very basic bottom level coder shit, yes. But if he's creating priv logs, second level review for what actually goes out the door, etc, then I think it's accurate. But then again I've only done doc review in a firm, so maybe it's different since it's tied into the productions more directly.

I'm in biglaw. We use contract attorneys for most doc review projects. The things described in the above post are discovery tasks performed by associates. The fact that you don't know the difference means you're not in biglaw and not a litigator. HTH.

Yeah, I was going to say he could just put a link to his concert reviews on his resume, and they could go read them if they like the Spin Doctors

Short answer is you cant, but do doc review long enough and you'll get a staff attorney or QC gig with some kind of other title and you can spin that. But plain vanilla temping cant be spun as anything else.

Aim for the stars bro. In a former career I moved around a few times and lied my ass off about what I did so I could move up to better, higher paying, positions. But that industry was far less transparent. You can easily find counsel of record for almost every case that has been tried over the last decade.
