how do you have a career path when you are a solo ? i cant even get promoted. :/

Your career path is growing your client base, your income, and eventually, if you so desire, your firm.

Having a career path is good in some ways, but is bad to the extent it puts a ceiling on where you can be year to year (at least as a biglaw associate). You don't have a defined path in front of you, but if you hustle the sky is the fucking limit. You make your own destiny.
