Bros, solo here looking to pick up a few extra bucks however possible.

i've heard the only way to make money in SSDI is doing volume, but I'm good even making an extra 500-1k extra a month - that would pay the rent. What's the deal in terms of how long a case takes, fees, etc.? Also i heard that this is a federal practice(?) so can I do this in neighboring states i'm not admitted in??

it can take a year+ before you'll see $$$

the claimants get denied at the local SSA office, come to you, you'll request a hearing before an ALJ, and then wait a year before having the hearing, then another couple months before the ALJ issues his decision

you can check your locale's ALJ affirmance rate here: http://www.disabilityjudges.com/default.aspx

the longer you have to wait for a decision, the more likely to get the max back pay award (you get paid from time of application in SSI and up to a year before that for DIB)

Thx bro. Is this considered a federal area, that I can do in any state?

Also is there any money in doing ssi, or just stick to ssdi? Also, you know how workers comp in NY is?

i am not sure about the licensing issue.

i know at the ALJ level, you dont even need to be an attorney to represent the claimants. these cases can get appealed up into the federal courts though.

i dont know anything about NY WC

re SSI vs. DIB, im not sure. many qualify for both concurrently bc of lack of income

I heard that occasionally you get the ones who have legit injuries and haven't even filed yet. Apparently if they've been injured for a few months you get some nice back pay.

it helps if the claimants are older than 55 (the disability rules favor olds)

I imagine it would be pretty horrible having smelly obese proles come to your office and waste your time griping about their back pain and their horrible lives. And then they probably call every two weeks, "When m'a gun get muh CHECK?"

heard that this is a good practice area as a supplement, just have to get all the briefs and read the tom bush book. once you know how to cross examine a vocational expert and paint your client's story you're good. however, there are a lot of waccos that call, so you have to cherry pick which clients you take.
