I'd watch them emerge each morning, echelon pattern elite, moving in cadence to a chorus of transitline chatter, another conference scheduled, another quick call made, no time for hesitation in their world, high-stakes technovore champions of the concrete canyons them. And as I gazed up, watched their progress, heard the scrape of their soft shoes against the rough architecture of the pavement, I wondered, could I join their ranks? Could I be one of them?
