In that sense, since most companies are run by white dudes, I can see how it's easier for a white person to "click" with most employers/interviewers.
The vast majority of colleges have open or near-open admissions policies so AA doesn't provide a benefit. The typical xo experience (elite school and On-Campus interviewing where employer uses various metrics including AA in hiring) is not anywhere near the norm.
There's some AA in government hiring, though anyone who has studied and understands fed gov hiring knows that the initial screening process which filters the vast majority of applicants (it's where applicants receive a score) does not give extra points for belonging to a certain class (except if you're a veteran of course). This is why since 2008, 80% of hires in the fed gov are white vets, lol. And of course, personal connections are important in state and local hiring.
The fed gov and I imagine many state and local governments are becoming less diverse relative to the population because these jobs, once considered garbage jobs compared to private occupations, are now the most sought after positions. |
