To whomever recommended this, thank you!

This was an 180 movie.

I genuinely was shocked by some of the twists and turns.

i am a huge fan of the exorcist, but i tried liking to live and die twice. not to worry, i saw it to completion both times. thats how much i wanted to like it. but i dunno, just didnt do it for me at all. it took itself so seriously, but it was kind of lame b-movie antics if you ask me. stupid acting, overly 80s style, music was retarded, jsut everything about it was larger than life, but cardboard b movie style. maybe i didnt get on the ride in the right frame of mind, i dunno, that sometimes does happen.

I think to really love a movie you need to see yourself in the characters...to be able to say "That could be me" if you lived that life.

I felt that way about the main guy- the whole time watching the movie I was thinking how similar I was to this guy, so at the end it really made me think about how I make decisions...

Perhaps you saw your personality reflected in the priest in the exorcist?

yes, maybe the priest was my anchor to the movie. you mean the older priest, or the younger one? but anyways, i think the exorcist is one of the best movies ever made. it really touched a nerve. but its the same director, so i just didnt get on the ride correctly, possibly. i know i kind of like his sorcerer movie. with the trucks carrying the liquid explosives. not same league as exorcist, but that had its moments. the scene where he is driving alone in the dunes towards the end..i must say i might have even gotten chills.

I had a similar experience with the movie Somewhere.

Objectively it is a pretty mediocre film (I just came to this realization right now), but I have always loved it because I felt I had a lot in common with the protagonist. Now I understand why everyone I recommended it to didn't like it.

oh somewhere. yeah i decided to skip it after the bling ring. she is not in a good space. i even kind of enjoyed marrie Antoinette, but bling ring... thats it, if you make a movie like that, im skipping your movies, including the beguiled, which was an excellent movie from the 70s and i dont need to see her take on it.

I liked the beguiled. Never saw the 70s one, though people said the old one was better.

i guess i should check it out, but i dont really want to look at nicole kidmans butchered face to be honest. im really torn between watching it or not. its not a matter of time, its a matter of letting it into my world. i know she goes for art, so i have to open up to it, but i just know she will stab my nuts basically when the credits roll, so whats the point. its happened with all her films for me. and the worst part is really teh fact that i can tell she is going for art, poetry, and not landing as far as im concerned. its pathetic.

hmm... ok, done. im checking it out.

edit: its just funny that a woman with very feminine sensibilities is directing a remake of a movie that was directed by a team of the director and clint eastwood that made some of the coolest macho movies ever made. thats what was so cool about the original beguiled: a macho man consumed -- eaten alive -- by women. like literally destroyed by the feminine, the one thing a real man takes and controls. im sure that was self-conscious by eastwood and the director, don seigel. they played with their formula, to kooky ends.
