Sarah Hyland, I respect you as someone who's usually an Adderall masterman. By the way, I spoke with you earlier this summer when you encouraged me to use my chill job to flush it all down the drain. Now here I am, as finals conclude, still chained to it but desperately wanting to free myself. Do you have an offbort throwaway?

But here, it's far more likely that Adderall *induces* anxiety, not solve it.

1. Adderall also acts on norepinephrine, which, more so than the dopamine bit, is what gives an Adderallmo physical energy despite no sleep and starvation. The dopamine bit is more mental. Norepinephrine is well known to induce anxiety.

2. Even Vyvanse, the "new and improved" model that's "100% d-amp if your liver is fully functional and can cleave off the lysine for full effect," would induce anxiety as a CNS stimulant. E.g., heart rate beating rapidly.

Almost everytime I take it, I become so anxious that I avoid all people, whereas I wasn't like this at all pre-Adderall. And it's not a matter of taking too high a dose either--this happens at 20mg XR, maybe with a 10mg IR.

3. So it is quite possible that the OP, on whom this devil drug has a paradoxical calming effect, has ADHD. Because when I take it, I want to run and jump and go outside but am too aspie to talk to anyone there, even the grocery clerk.

4. SSRI for anxiety I heard is CR, although one month of Zoloft hasn't done shit for me. So I'm still taking a benzo as-needed (not that often, as I've become secluded).

How the FUCK did I end up on this maintenance, long-term "treatment plan"?

Are you still in law school? I don't remember what year you were when we spoke. If you're still in law school (or any kind of school), right now - when there's no finals and all you're doing is mucking around and attending class and shit - is a PERFECT time to quit.

Don't try to switch to Vyvanse, or Wellbutrin, or Modafinil, or any other shit like that. All of those are either stimulant drugs that have the same effect on your brain as Adderall, or--in the case of Wellbutrin--some kind of weird hybrid between a stimulant and antidepressant that will still make you feel like shit.

You have the same adverse reaction to Adderall that I used to have when I took it (really jumpy, bad anxiety, totally secluded and isolated, etc.). After I flushed them all down the toilet, I didn't take any meds of any kind for at least a year, but I would actually encourage you to jump right into taking Lexapro. Zoloft is pure shit (at least, based upon my discussions with other people who have shitty anxiety problems like I do). Prozac won't help you, and it takes weeks to have any effect whatsoever. (I took Prozac for a few weeks and it did NOTHING - actually made me feel worse instead of better).

Lexapro is a fucking miracle drug. I don't know if I mentioned this when we last spoke, but it's freaking amazing. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to kick in, one dose lasts all day (I started on 10mg and currently take 20mg - which might be a little too much), and it COMPLETELY ELIMINATES any feelings of stress/anxiety you have, thereby allowing you to concentrate and live like a normal person.

Here are my thoughts: You aren't going to taper off of Adderall. It just doesn't work that way--I don't know anyone who has successfully tapered. You're not going to switch to Vyvanse, Modafinil, etc., because that's just a weaker version of Adderall, so you'll end up taking a higher dose to get the same effect, and then you'll have all the same shitty side effects to deal with. You NEED to make an appointment with student health, flush all of your Adderall down the toilet (I did it--there is simply no other way to do it), and then go tell them that you have anxiety problems and want to try Lexapro (say that a friend recommended it or whatever). Lexapro isn't hard to get. It will help you relax and focus.

1. We spoke <6 months ago.

2. I have EXACTLY the reaction you described. Even though my tolerance hasn't gone up (I've been taking the same dose since I was first prescribed it 18months ago), that same dose gets me jumpy, anxious, paranoid at times (like the whole world is watching me).

Secluded, isolated, alone for a dozen hours a day, 5+ days a week. Just me and legal scholarship. What a rotten life.

3. Still in LS. I was the bro who had a relatively easygoing summer job. But a month from then was OCI, and I was busy figuring out how to unscrew myself.

Now I'm in the thick of the academic jungle (SecReg?!?) and as I might have said then, now is really not the best 3months or so to be going through withdrawal:

lying in bed, awake but can't do anything but watch Tv.

4. The doc prescribed me Welbutrin months ago. I notice something from it (whereas I noticed nothing from Prozac). But the overall physical effect from Welbutrin is still somewhat negative. Anxious, just physically uneasy.

I guess Adderall also brings the physical discomfort, but since it's so much more "in your face" about it, I'm aware of the physical discomfort but I tolerate it as I pursue scholarship. FMA
