You either need to enter the military or go to pilot schools. Most pilots make like 18k a year and have no hope of paying off school debt.

A friend is going through airline training and says that there are fewer applicants than positions open, so he is basically guaranteed a job for the major airline that is training him.

If that Denzel Washington movie is to be believed he can at least cop free vodka while he flies.

He'll almost certainly have to start at a shithole regional like Skywest before he goes to a major carrier. Those jobs are plentiful and have a high washout rate because of thr way union seniority works. They can prevent you from working over the bare minimum hours in your contract if someone more senior wants to fly more hours.

becoming a pilot in US is insanely stupid, just do asia or brazil or something, pilot shortages everywhere and i think the pay in asia is acctually fairer than in US, cost of living is low

this is true, there's a global pilot shortage, all the boomers are retiring with their fat pensions and the airlines are replacing them with 15k a year piles of feces

SE asia is like desperate for pilots.. i was gonna look into this but u have to spend a lot of time in shit flyin school, paying out of pockcet, studying all sorts of shit ull never need since its 99% autopilot

These are the bare minimum requirements, akin to saying "you need to graduate from an ABA-approved law school to become a federal prosecutor."

To make the jump from the regionals to the nationals (or even better, FedEx), you frankly need 3 of the following: (1) twice the minimum flight hours; (2) a family connection (aviation is more connections-based than you'd guess); (3) to be a woman or minority; and (4) to have flown prestigious equipment in the military (F-18 for the navy, I dunno for the airforce).
