Bourne Legacy is actually better than Jason Bourne

bourne legacy is forgettable but benign
jason bourne was a stain on the series

zero character development
we don't really learn much about bourne and even when we do get tidbits of his family history none of it makes any sense
relatedly, no development of relationships -- bourne spends a substantial amount of time with nikki parsons but there's no indication why he/we should care about her
so in the end it's just a guy running around for reasons that we don't understand in a bunch of boring action scenes

idk i don't think that's important she helped him out and fled from the gubmint. i cared about her as a character, she was sympathetic in her dilemma between professional duties and her feelings for bourne. thought letting the subtext between them hang there was a good idea.
i didn't give a shit about the silicon valley stuff with the tech entrepreneur but i guess they had to find some way to make the movie politically current. the stakes weren't high with the asset with the vendetta bourne was up against either.
overall though i thought it was decent. definitely better than bourne legacy with mushy face jeremy renner who doesn't fuck rachel weisz even though he's a wisecracking normie and not a tortured amnesiac anti-hero

i always thought that nikki was an exceedingly weak character even in the prior movies
i couldn't even describe nikki's personality to you even after she appeared in this movie and all the prior ones -- no adjectives come to mind
i really feel like the characters ought to be vivid/memorable. ultimatum wasn't great but at least u had the bumbling NSA director contrasted with a very competent landy. by that measure the best was still the first one bc you had bourne, who was basically a killing machine who always had it "together", contrasted against marie, who was this sort of disorganized/bohemian
