Let's say money is no issue, in that you can probably save up to the projected amount, but you're not a billionaire, so you'd rather not waste it. You do make enough that significant financial aid under the current system would be unlikely.
College already costs more than it's worth imo, and the projected 400k future costs are absurd. You're better off sending junior to community college or college in a foreign jurisdiction and helping with a house down payment or whatever. Seems dumb to model spending that much money on something that isn't worth it.
How much would you save/pay for college for your kids? Grad school?

are you trying to figure out how much to dump into 529 account?
why not just save and see what you need it for?

for umc:
at some point the amount of money starts looking like enough to buy a house, car, and a business. way before that point.
seems dumb to send kid to school so they can buy a house, car and work if you can just buy them the house, car and a job (via buying or seeding a business). 300K to 500K is enough for this in most places.
for the actual rich:
who gives a shit. a few million would be a drop in the bucket and you only have a few kids at most these days.

the cost of college will probably not maintain its current pace. there is an insane amount of waste in the system because of shitty private schools, government subsidized loans, and just stupid behavior from kids.
that said, targeting about $200K in real terms is a decent bet.
if you max out your contribution to a 529 for about 7 years ($98K)and assume a 3% to 4% real return you can hit the target.
i would not fund any college as most high-cost private schools are garbage.

state school price unless you're super rich
If they get into CHMYPS buckle down and help them out some more. If not, it isn't worth it
