It's worth noting that liberals are very much NOT interested in the numbers when comparing, say, the relative risk to black people of police violence (250-300 a year only some of which are unjustified) vs. other causes. Suddenly when the question is whether we should import a bunch of people who worship a pedophile warlord as a divine servant of god, it's time to pull out the actuarial tables to determine just how dangerous they are. And note that all of this, even if taken at face value, doesn't say how we benefit-- it's just that we may not suffer as much as people think we might. Pass.

A terrorist is some lunatic who just comes over un-announced and starts shooting.
A husband is a person you've been involved intimately with for a long time.
There's always a risk that somebody you know could become dangerous. Presumably, you run that risk because you don't think it applies in your particular situation, or because the benefits are worth the risk.
This calculus doesn't apply to random terrorist nutjobs. They have no relationship with their victims whatsoever other than terrorizing them. There's no "background story" to a terrorist attack, classically defined; the terrorist just shows up and murders a bunch of innocent people he doesn't know. When a person murders their partner, it's likely the end of a causal chain that included a bunch of warning signs and, although it's politically impossible to say this outside of XO or 4chan, may have included some shitty behavior on the wife's part.
So the comparison is just stupid. |
