American Jews don't own guns or know how to fight so they would be easy prey. House security systems barely do anything.
So Jews, who are highly paranoid and phobic, feel comfortable that way. Additionally Jews are used to living in small quarters from the ghettos of Eastern Europe. The culture is somewhat more collectivist which also fits into this. |

There are some advantages -- it's just less shit to worry about when you work a job with long hours. But I'd rather have a yard, grill, basement, etc. |

But apartments anywhere desirable in NYC are even more expensive than houses, and way more so on a per sq ft basis.
And that's not even considering private school tuition for kids, which, when coupled with NYC income tax, is way way more than property tax in even the toniest of suburbs. |
