Only if your firm is paying for it or you're a GULC JD who can knock it out in a semester.

Not competitive.

...or if you are unemployed and have the financial wherewithal to drop $60k on some additional legal education.

What should my/my parents' net worth be in order to have the wherewithal to do this?

UPDATE: called my parents and they said they're not gonna pay for it lol, ah well it was worth a shot

It wouldn't make more sense to take tax classes in third year? Besides, what if we go to a flat tax right after you get the LLM?

If you were a solid candidate who somehow didn't get a good offer in ls, think you'll do bette with another crack at things, like the idea of doing tax, and are willing to take another $60K in debt, then the NYU tax LLM program just might be for you.

is this a serious question? if your parents' finances are worth nothing to you, then whatever, throw their money away. but estate planning is on the verge of death right now as a lucrative field, and the upside is not very high even if the estate tax does stick around.

No worries. I think I understand why they're terrified. I have heard that the estate tax isn't going anywhere, and even if it does get repealed, there will still be a demand for sophisticated estate planning for wealthy people...but I have also gotten the sense that it is not the most lucrative area unless you're cornering that rich niche market. Unfortunately, it's also the area of the law that I find the most interesting.

It's true that there will still be a demand, but consider that six years ago, there was many times the demand (before the exclusion went up five-tenfold) and those attorneys aren't all dead yet. They're junkyard dogs out there, huntin' for SCRAPS
