I've snapped my back a few times. The one time I actually went to the doc it was my SI joint but another time I'm pretty sure I herniated a disc or at least had a bulging disc. Couldn't get out of bed for a week

yep twice. It totally sucks. Take it slow and work with someone to rehab. They take a long time to heal. Swimming is not too bad an option to keep in shape while you heal.

L5/S1 rupture. Back pain and sciatic nerve pain down my right leg. Could not sit down at all, as pain would radiate down my back all the way down to my ankle.

I did a combination of hanging from an inversion table 2x day, yoga, and pilates. Recovered in a few months

I have an annular tear in my L5/S1 from playing basketball

I've been in pain pretty much every day for five years. Have to crack my back or decompress it for relief constantly

More recently been going to a good physical therapist weekly (not one of those shitty franchise type places) and she's been giving good exercise tips etc.

Standing desks are helpful

I get a deep tissue massage weekly

I went to a chiropractor but wasnt really helping so I dropped it.

I have an inversion table which sort of helps on the decompression front

I'm sorry to hear that. I feel your pain. My annulus is open as well and the disc is "dessicated". What sort of decompression and PT are you doing? Any thoughts about surgery?

Decompression like hanging from a pullup bar or pushing myself up on the edge of my desk. I roll out my back all the time too.

PT is mainly exercises to strengthen abs and tiny stabilizer muscles around the back. My body has adapted to put more stress on places not around the disc which is causing tension/tightness/pain in other areas

Oh she gave me a bunch of the mackenzie exercises too which are helpful

Refuse to do surgery

I've been doing exercises I found in a book by doctor Stuart McGill: McGill curls, side plank from the knees, bird dog. I can't do bird dog yet so I just raise a single arm. Are you able to perform everyday activities (driving, dressing, sitting etc.) without a lot of pain?

Yeah my pain is more chronic and annoying. I can pretty much do all exercises but not at heavy weights like I used to. Not squatting or deadlifting near what I did pre injury

I get flare ups sometimes usually when doing something at the gym. Eg squats or box jumps. Then I'm legit out of commission for a week

I've been doing a lot of lower body volume recently and back is nearly snapped. My form has been perfect on squats but maybe been a bit lax with deadlift form. Still refuse to use a belt

I had a bulging disc btwn l5/s1 6 years ago me I reaggravated this a month ago when I had the flu bad and was coughing like crazy. PT helps. Yoga and lower back exercises help. Get a foam roller. Use a standing desk. Walk a lot and do not sit for long periods of time. Low impact aerobics ok but no running on the treadmill. Get a heating pad. I have it on basically all night to relax the muscles. Exercises to open up the hips and strengthen lower back and core. Google exercises to help sciatica for ideas (I also have those flareups, basically during my entire 3rd trimester of pregnancy). It sucks getting old.
