The gap closed. Chicago was two points ahead. What this means is according to UsNews Chicago is not THAT far ahead of the so called 7-14 group.
But IMO any resource that has Chicago ahead of NYU is crap, so I believe this.

yeah I suppose that 1 point is significant given the narrow range of scores within the top 14.

Penn 4.3/4.3
NYU 4.6/4.4 (maybe?)

Well, if true, they're not terribly surprising if you understand the methodology. I've been saying that with only one point overall separating NU from top-10 and a .1 increase in median gpa last year and a 1 point LSAT increase to 169, there was little doubt the gap would be bridged.
Yet people still predicted it would drop.

Very little of it makes sense. Particularly the large difference between Chicago and NYU.

I don't care to opine on the relevance of the weighting. I'm merely talking about what could cause the changes with the methodology being what it is.
Most people on this board would probably think a hot woman should choose a man based on his IQ, not his looks or his bank account.

Nope. Going to NYU.
But, if you're asking what I believe, I think that once Dozo breaks the top tier, they will start attracting more and more students away from Fordham. Dozo already has better facilities and probably a better faculty. They also have managed to distinguish themselves as a leading school in certain fields and are backed by a much stronger institution.
Fordham is slipping (to 34) even with the huge boost that the past few years has given to NYC schools. Now, Dozo is only 19 behind, compared to like 26 last year. It's only a matter of time.

From your rankings, the schools should now be listed as such:
1. Yale (100)
--------------------------------------
2. Harvard (93)
3. Stanford (92)
4. Columbia (90)
5. NYU (89)
---------------------------------------
6. Chicago (84)
7. Mich, Penn (83)
9. UVA (82)
10. NU, Duke (81)
12. Cornell (80)
13. Berkeley (79)
---------------------------------------
14. GULC (76)
15. UT (75)
16. UCLA (74)

This year GULC slipped bad. Now, either it's fallen, leaving the top 14, or UT and UCLA must be incorporated.

Well, NYU moved up one slot. Now, Harvard, Stanford, Columbia and NYU are separated by a total of four. NYU is three away from breaking top 3, Columbia is only 2 away.
Seems like Yale is well ahead, with both NYU and Columbia having some sort of shot at overtaking Stanford next year.

Boalt #13 ... pretty pathetic both on the part of USNEWS and of the school.
USNEWS because of lame methodology. The school because of lame California budget/politicians, inability to retain and build on faculty quickly enough, crap ass facilities, etc.
What an insult to be ranked after the likes of Cornell, Duke, NU.

By the way...I have a scanner and would not mind scanning that shit....hehe.

Then again, these movements in rep scores are likely all within the margin of error.

The median LSAT just went up by one, but U.S. News doesn't use the median. Maybe the 25-75% shifted. Bar passage changed a lot to. It used to be below the misourri average, now it's the highest in MO (my guess is that a bad economy means more smart people staying in St. Louis).
Rep might have gone up marginally. One of our profs is teaching a class at Yale 1 day a week and another just became a fellow at the Hoover institute at Stanford. This may happen with profs at every school, but a little extra contact with the outside world might give us a boost.

I remember when Cornell went from 6 to 14 in one year in the Undergrad rankings. As if the school's quality actually fell in one year.

And there is a certain margin of error. Random fluxuations within the margin of error can move a school up (or down) several rankings spots.

I really appreciate the rankings though. If not for U.S. news I would have never guessed in a million years that michigan, UVA, and NYU are all top law schools. I certainly wouldn't know that Iowa, Illinois, and W&L had olid programs. They serve a good purpose. If you don't already have contact throughout the legal community, I think it would be very ahrd to learn these things.
Yearly shifts are kind of arbitrary, but overall the reps of schools stay fairly constant.

Proof that has been offered:
I'm not sure how much interest there is in the 2005 rankings on this board since most of us nontrads make our decisions based on more than rankings. But, I've found many of the posts on this board are very helpful as I get closer to sending in a seat deposit...everything from how to get the family support to options for moving long distance.
Since my decision is based on a mix of financial, location and ranking I've found it very difficult to decide where to send a seat deposit before some of the April 1 deadlines I'm faced with meeting. Even with my deadlines of April 15, its been difficult to wait till Friday for the rankings. Out of frustration, I went out to visit some local bookstores in the hope that I could find a copy a couple days early. Bookstore #4 did the trick. They had a stack out for all to see and buy...so I grabbed a copy.
I realize that on one of the "other" boards there have been many threads alleging to have early copies. I do not want to start a flame war. If this topic is inappropriate, I welcome the administrator to lock or delete the thread. My goal is to simply help and contribute to the board that has been the most helpful to me.
I do not plan on typing in the entire list...I have other things to do tonight. But I will answer questions about specific schools when I take a break from such things as laundry. I'll offer the following on the schools that I've been most interested in:
UNLV 7 way tie at #82. GPA 3.23-3.69, LSAT 151-159, employment at grad 80.2, 9 months 95.2
FSU 5 way tie at #67. GPA 3.32-3.75, LSAT 154-159, employment at grad 66.4, 9 months 96.7
The headings for the articles are "Going Global", "The Numbers Game", and "Attorneys Wanted". I haven't read the articles yet...I was more interested in the rankings.

Date: April 1st, 2004 11:31 AM Author: .... ............. .. ........... (abc@123.com) Subject: Why are you fueling the pernicious influence of U.S. News?
Leiter details exactly why the U.S. News rankings are a crock. We all already know part of the story (only 25% is based on academic reputation, and this is polled without giving participants lists of faculty). Why not stop the evil influence of U.S. News now by not giving it any more credence than it deserves (which is very little). Take Leiter's rankings more seriously if you're going to take rankings seriously. In 5 years people will be looking at his rankings as much as they look at U.S. News, especially if U.S. News doesn't clean up its act. Have you looked at the faculty at various schools you're considering to see how strong they are in your area? Do you know the personalities of the faculty--are they available for mentoring?
In academia in general, talent is distributed much more equally than it was 25 years ago. People in firms and at schools in their 30s and 40s realize this, and it will become reality amongst all very soon. Go where the good faculty in your area are. Consider other factors other than U.S. News rankings. After all, supposedly what you're after is a good education so that you may become a better scholar of the law, and U.S. News simply does not give a very accurate picture of quality of education.
