Given current biglaw market salary/bonus levels (and not considering that the OP hypo was 4 years biglaw, 4 years boutique), 8 years of biglaw gross earnings would be would be $1,970,000 in salary and $525,000 in bonuses. In New York City, your total NET income wouldn't come close to $1.8 million.
