You have to compare crime rates amongst whites vs blacks and screen for the following: broken homes, no higher education, poverty level.
Once you do this, do blacks still commit murder at a much higher rate? |

I'm just saying that it's fair to control for those things when evaluating black propensity for crime. My thesis is that even after controlling for them, you'd still see significantly higher murder rates among black populations. |

Second, you can't control for education, income, etc, because those factors are directly related to race. If you did control for them you would be artificially lowering the effect of race. They are related to intelligence or 'ability', which many studies try to measure with IQ as a proxy. Even if IQ was a good measure of intelligence, most studies don't say it is 100% genetic. The debate is more whether it is partly genetic and partly environmental or 100% environmental (of course, you also have the IT'S 100% ENVIRONMENTAL AND ALSO UR RACISS camp, but...)
For me the main problem is that gaps have been highly persistent. There's been some progress but it's been far from impressive. If it was purely environmental the causal links would be more clear. |

You can argue that on the margins some environmental factors could close the gap on some of those conditions, but all evidence points to them being pretty persistent. IQ being the clearest of the bunch.
Like imagine you wanted to compare basketball proficiency across races but then argued that you needed to control for height. Does that make any sense whatsoever? Of course not because different races have different average heights and height is an important factor in basketball. |
