It's like Reddit.
Lots of 110-120 IQ idiots who are smart enough to cause problems but don't actually understand anything.

Their entire profession is getting their lunches eating by kids with webcams who post on 4chan all day.
That's journalists in 2017, getting pushed into irrelevance by neckbeards in their mother's basement.
A big part of why they're pushing all these conspiracy theories against Trump is because they need a 'big win,' an impeachment, a watergate moment, because they know without one, what vestige of prestige they had is gone and 'journalism' will from here on be equal to 'I'm starting a band, bro.'

Fair point in many contexts.
Counterpoint: idiotic political journalists.

“Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them.
In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.”
― Michael Crichton

If you ask me, newspaper reporters are created at age six when they first go to school. In the schoolyard boys immediately divide into two types. Immediately! There are those who have the will to be daring and dominate, and those who don’t have it. … But there are boys from the weaker side of the divide who grow up with the same dreams as the stronger … The boy standing before me, John Smith, is one of them. They, too, dream of power, money, fame, and beautiful lovers. Boys like this kid grow up instinctively realizing that language is like … a sword or a gun. Used skillfully, it has the power to … well, not so much achieve things as to tear things down – including people … including the boys who came out on the strong side of the sheerly dividing line. Hey, that’s what liberals are! Ideology? Economics? Social justice? Those are nothing but their prom outfits. Their politics were set for life in the schoolyard at age six. They were the weak, and forever after they resented the strong. That’s why so many journalists are liberals! The very same schoolyard events that pushed them toward the written word … pushed them toward “liberalism.”

Contact between journalists is fine, it's Journolist-style collusion that is bad. Also, most of these issues are not new and some aren't even particularly bad right now (sensationalism in particular is a constant). I'd add:
-Heavy content pressure. Journalists need to write more stories these days and that hinders robust reporting (though on the flipside, reporting itself is much easier today with the Internet and all).
-There are fewer editors today, and the ones that exist are editing more stories. This puts a strain on basic fact-checking and increases the odds of fuck-ups.
-Herd mentality. Outlets don't just steal stories from each other, but also wording, framing, etc. It's not a coincidence every publication called Trump's convention speech "dark."
I may think of more later.

most are complete idiots. it's embarrassing that these people are taken seriously on any level.
Some are cunning and know what they're doing. Too bad these types are almost entirely out to fool people.

was reading some balzac the other day and the story was at least tangentially about a character's interactions with two different presses - one was the press written by what i assume were the liberals, and one was the press written by what i assume were something like monarchists/government (not a historymo). both were more or less equally powerful. this is probably the actual problem with journalism. modern journalism is basically 100% partisan to a single side - that of the existing order/power structure/aristocracy. without a competing press to call journalists' bluff on the delusional shit they write, they have free rein to spout whatever nonsense feels good to them.
the lack of a countervailing press created a strong liberal feedback loop that i hope is starting to slow down given trump's election and breitbart. that said, i could easily see the current media situation as a symptom of the larger, more powerful globalization trend, which can almost only increase at this point.

Journalists eviscerated itt
I'm completely nonplussed at the existence of these bourgeoisie boutique-y professions like journalism which gives me cognitive dissonance as a liberal artist since it's KIND OF my destiny to be an inept liberal haplessly doing liberal arts shit and making $20k/year.
