one of the best movies of all time. hitchock outdid himself there. he is a master (even his 1930s movies are watchable and great) but vertigo is his crowning achievement. it gave me a strange feeling, like watching fanny and alexander or the thing by carpenter, meaning after its over you feel weird, out of place, hurt, and disoriented, like you have been truly disturbed.

Mind reading my thoughts on it? I often "think" too much and disregard the feels. With music its the opposite. Im going to watch tonight and will try to chill and let do.

just going by your OP, you are not wrong. its part of the soul of the movie. there is more to it than that of course, the x factor. i feel like in vertigo there is a mystery that goes to the heart of all mysteries, its inarticulabe. its the dread and fear of being wronged by life, as you happily want to embrace it like the child that you were, but instead it backfires at you from precisely the same place, and you feel betrayed by it all, the vertigo of existence.

You guys need to see it on a 70mm print in a big old movie theater. It's a 180 experience that really heightens all the sensations you so aptly describe, Mr. Child Molester, sir.

seems to be about how attempting to resurrect a past dream results in obsession and a dizzying nightmare, similar to a reanimated corpse.

I like this a lot but are not all ideations a past? Is it possible to constantly be refreshing?

it's the difference between planting a garden in your garden (the natural arrangement) and planting one in your bed in an attempt to achieve spiritual joinder with the garden. instead it just ends in a mess.

how's Nolan's the follower of whatever as a followup? I don't have much patience for movies earlier than the mid 60's. should I watch vertigo?

Really like chinatown. That quote from old man stuck with me: most people never have to face the truth that given the right time & place they are capable of anything
