we are in a bubble. i say that as someone who has plenty of exposure to cryptos. what convinces me that i’m right is not even so much the price action of the cryptos themselves (though it certainly contributes to my conviction) but what’s going on in the stock market. there are SPS companies whose stock prices are skyrocketing bc they simply mention the words “cryptocurrency” or “blockchain.”

how can you say we’re only now in a bubble when the price of this internet funny money is totally untethered to another metric like earnings or ebitda. merely because the price is going up fast? arguably any price for a crypto asset represents a bubble.

the entire cryptocurrency market value is still less than half the market cap of just apple - there’s still plenty of money on the sidelines.

the thing about bubbles is you can only know when they’ll end after the fact. you might be right, or you might sound like the people that sold when eth hit $50

i guess but that’s not a good way to prove either of us right. i think i read a study where like 40% of the gains from every 5 year stock market bubble period happened in like the last 8 months before it popped. so people that were scared off by high valuations left a shit ton of money on the table.

my point is 1) i need a better way to spot a bubble in this space than just the prices going up fast and 2) the opportunity cost of forgone gains are no different than the decline in your original investment. i’d feel almost as shittty if i sold now and eth hit 900 than i would if it went from 450 to 0

read below. I strongly believe we are at the late stage of the bubble. within 3 months, I think prices will be lower, very possibly substantially so. there is also a very big difference in a stock market bubble popping and a crypto bubble popping as it relates to liquidity and functionality i.e. your ability to get out when everyone is running for the exits

ok, I should have expanded though my post does answer OP's question. I think we are in the last stages of the bubble, though it certainly might reignite at some later time. again, I am basing this on what i am seeing in the stock market where SPS companies are experiencing parabolic moves in their stock prices simply by injecting the words "cryptocurrency" or "blockchain" into a company press release.

Love having a basis of ~16.

Already sold enough to have profited maybe $10k and still own most of it.

Now it's all just a fun ride.
