Want to buy the challenger hellcat widebody off lease or some shit in a couple of years, but my worry is the numbnuts who either leased it or bought it brand new will have done a bunch of dumbass acceleration runs and beat it in like a rented mule. Is this a rational fear?

a lot man. what if the person didn't change the oil? or just generally beat the shit out of it, which is particularly likely with this kind of car, and one that either the lease ended early or was repo'd.

I mean this is the kind of flighty postulating I've been doing that prompted me to ask for advice in this thread. Hoping for somebody with a little experience to weigh in.

These cars are 80,000 dollars and they're not really for casual drivers. I'm imagining a scenario where somebody gets one and decides they don't like it as much as something else they could get in the price range, so trade it in after a year or two.

no clue because 2018 is the first model year for this particular variant. low mileage 2017 "narrow" hellcats are in the high-40ks to 50s.

A brand new widebody is a 72k sticker

Way too many faggots here have WRXs. Subaru conned all you dumbasses with that AWD feature. Okay, it's AWD but it's shit in every other respect. Shitty power band and dated platform and less than ideal tuning for an enthusiast car. The fuck is the point?

dated platform? the sti perhaps. wrx was updated in 2015 and as far as performance pwns its competition (GTI, focus st) and with minor tuning it can be significantly boosted. wrx is less than $30k is fun to drive and also suitable as a daily driver.

interior is kind of shit.

Are you just bad flame? Anyway, at the end of the day a visual inspection won't tell you how many metal shavings are floating around the engine from abuse. Short of a tear down of the engine all a mechanic can tell you is whether cheap ancillaries need replacing and the status of the fuel injection which is the only real readily apparent sign that a lead footed driver did any damage to a two year old car unless the seller is a real idiot and just leaves the old oil in for you to see the damage....

Pray tell how you intend to go about telling how abused an engine is? The only other giveaway is if a tracked car sounds weird going into second gear. If it was heavily tracked the driver was slamming it into 2nd a fuckton and you will hear the difference between second and third rather easily.

Are you kidding? You can ruin the brakes in just 1 afternoon on the track. If they don't change out all the fluids after a track day the car will age like 1 year in basically in a week of subsequent use. You can murder the entire engine in a half dozen trips to the track without proper care like putting in a heavier track rated oil or putting in a heavier oil and then not taking it the fuck out for daily driving. Real easy to kill a car.

With a car like that, you will likely encounter a bimodal distribution of cars that were ran hard and put away wet and garage queens. The good news for you is that there is a very strong correlation between maintaining a car's physical appearance with a desire to not abuse it, mechanically, and not caring about it looking like shit and beating the piss out of it.

Consider the Camaro ZL1 1LE over the Hellcat. It's a much crazier car though it is like $10k more you get a fuckton for the $10k. The only issue with the Camaro is you need to immediately replace the insane R compound tires if you daily drive it or you will destroy the paint in like two weeks.

I wouldn't daily drive a performance car but I agree the Camaro is very agile and well contoured. My uninhibited buddy in the guard bought a camaro ss and drives it back and forth from Maryland to Ohio once a month...not something I would do but it's a nice piece

Describe your experience with car mechanics. They don’t get “blown out” from accelerating a lot. A car doesn’t know if it’s going fast or slow. They get blown out from lots of revolutions on engine and lots of miles. Hth

Yes. See if they have oil change records, but if it passes emissions well, it’s fine. Cars are built to be durable.
