What do we do with the "good" illegals?

I will probably get misty eyed when we start building the wall. We should be deporting shit loads of illegals. But what do we do with the "good" immigrants that aren't dreamers? People that pay their taxes, have clean records, hold down jobs or even own small businesses?
There are some real injustices happening. One of my wife's patients is a 39 year old Mexican guy who has been in the country 30 years and is being deported. He had a clean record until getting into an altercation that resulted in someone reporting him. Married, employed, has two kids. How is justice served by deporting this guy?

I am all for the mass deportation of illegals and having merit-based immigration but I can see why rich whites are pro-illegals. If you don't have to interact with them outside of cheap household labor it is a good deal. Many of them work much harder than entitled whites or blacks. There should be a temporary guest-worker program with no path to citizenship or long-term residency for certain jobs.

Typical of how things work in our political system and my proposal was probably naive to the reality of our system. Guess the answer to my question is no exceptions because nothing else will work.
Our nanny is likely an illegal and much cheaper and harder working than an American nanny. I have met a bunch of hardworking and inexpensive Mexican tradesman and construction workers over the years. I just don't know if immediately deporting these types of people is the right answer. Not that we should sacrifice our culture and society for the short-term benefits of cheap labor. |
