moishe is a teacher at a jewish k-8 school. another school in the area has opened and taken many of their students. rumors circulate that the school is going to cut back on teachers and consolidate classes. each grade will lose a teacher.
a short time later, moishe is summoned to the principal's office and given notice.
after he comes home, moishe's wife says he should speak to her uncle who is a major benefactor to the school to see if he can put pressure on the principal to reverse his decision or lay off a different teacher.
is it permitted for moishe to do so?

Ok, I'll play. This is one of those "but where do you draw the liiiiine" annoying hypos. You clearly can stick up for yourself. No one would object if he just said "but if you look at my reviews, I'm actually the best performing teacher." Everyone would object if that person lied and made up some incident about another teacher to get them fired instead ("I saw Chaim touch a little boy on the circumcised penis!").
So the question is whether utilizing influence with those in power is acceptable. I guess the answer is yes, but it isn't preferable, and if you can find a job somewhere else and have money and want to be a good bro then the nice thing to do is to just leave?

Unless his livelihood is at risk (i.e his life being in danger of collapsing due to this), he is not.
It is a hard situation to judge upon without knowing more details however.
Can he get another job easily? What is his circumstance in life, in the community? Etc

I think that he is more justified.
The benefactor intervening is one thing, but intervening to have them fire someone else and rehire him is something different.
The issue would lie with the person who was judging whom to fire (i.e the school) but I assume that it was fairly decided by the head of the school.
