1. Russia did fuck with our elections as much as they could because they hated Clinton and wanted U.S. to look corruptible.
2. Trump’s ego would not allow people to think Russia had helped him in anyway possible. Plus, he genuinely likes despots like Putin.
3. Trump ordered or suggested his people cover up a conspiracy he had nothing to do with.
They did and they lied when the entire real scandal was an internet trolling operation that had nothing to do with Trump.

Manafort was critical in filling Rules Committee slots with pro-Trump delegates. He outmaneuvered Cruz's team at a number of conventions, especially in the key positions.

Kasich's delegate team was also headed by Manafort/Stone's old partner - Charlie Black.
A Cruz-controlled Rules Committee would've changed the rules (regarding delegate binding, etc.) and written new ones to benefit Cruz.

It's more simple than that. They expected a boring Jeb vs. Hillary race and intended to demonize both sides and question the legitimacy of the election altogether.
Then Sanders and Trump unexpectedly showed up and presented heartily preferable FP viewpoints relative to the other candidates and so they shifted into being open advocates for them.

1. As much as possible being spending a few hundred grand on some silly social media ads along with having some Russians post on social media?
2. Would Clinton credit foreigners that post "Trump is a NAZI" on twitter for her election had she won?
3. What was the cover up, exactly?
Here's what I see: we've spent an astronomical amount of time and money on an investigation that has produced absolutely nothing, aside from a few really funny moments on social fucking media. More stupidly, the Democrats are showing they have nothing of substance sooner rather than later, which is one of the things resulting in Trump's polling numbers reaching record highs. Now what are they going to say? Moderates aren't going to buy that Russia hacked the election BS after they hear that this really meant that ihatecrime1@gmail.com posted something snarky to twitter about Hillary. You dumbasses dun goofed.

OP's theory is in line with what we've been saying all along -- that there was no collusion, and that this is a baseless investigation being used to (i) tie up the administration and (ii) elicit process crimes along the way.
Again, the fact that there wasn't collusion is a feature, and not a bug, of this investigation, as collusion with a foreign government would be bad. This is merely a political witch hunt designed to hamstring an administration that owes nothing to the Washington establishment and would have been an unthinkable prediction 3 years ago.
