ebay or craigslist are the best options for selling anything used unless u have a friend wanting to buy it maybe. something that's easy to ship like clothing would be best on ebay.

true. i dunno if there's enough local interest in used dresses on CL like with furniture or something. some things go quickly on CL, other things just dont move.

ebay seller fees like 20% of the value. sucks

plus the 3% paypal fee, plus having to pay insurance on the shipping which you're not allowed to charge the buyer for.

There are various websites like preownedweddingdresses.com and oncewed.com and the classified in forums like weddingbee.com.

I also tried eBay and CL but lots of riff raff wanting to come over and try on dress and bargain. I received some interest but the best offer I got was like $1500 (listed it for $2500) and they wanted me to clean it first which costs like $200. I actually only paid about $1800 after all alterations but I then found a charity that helps out military brides and they gave me a receipt for $5000 so I got $2000 off my taxes. The dress retails for $7500.

$1000 no name david’s Bridal dress, maybe the best you can do is like $200. I wouldn’t bother and would just donate it and write in $1000 as the tax write off.

ty.

it's not david's bridal, but by no-name do you mean non-fancyschmancy designer?

since when does the charity write down the value on the receipt? dont they just give you a receipt with the items listed? isnt it up to you to declare to the irs what you deem the value is?

Any donation over $250 requires the charity to provide a written acknowledgment of what was donated and estimated fmv. When you go to goodwill, they give you the blank receipts you can fill it out, but I always keep the amount under $250 per receipt since I don’t have the acknowledgment as backup if I get audited.

Most charities will work with you and put whatever amount under $5000 you want on the receipt but you’re not allowed to fill it out for them. Anything over $5000 requires an appraisal so that why I asked them to put the max $5000 instead.

Lol I don’t even know if that’s even possible at goodwill. They just have those people standing by the door taking your bags of shit and handing you blank receipts.

Ironically, council for Jewish women give generous valuations. I’ve gotten multiple receipts over $500 from them for complete garbage.
