At the local level you're more likely to set policy by forming an activist group than you would be by being in elected office.

If you can get ten aligned citizens in the same room meeting with an elected official, you will get your local views enacted for most things.

It goes without saying that you will be most effective if you are well funded as well. Chambers of Commerce and Developers set the agenda generally.

interesting. sounds like local lobbying. what about designing social and economic policy/programs at the state level?

Haven't tried state level shenanigans yet

Might want to try to reverse engineer how the main power orgs in your state are set up and funded. Probably differs between large states and small states.

what type of policy work have you done or agenda have you pushed? and did you get paid to lobby for this or did it benefit your own interest and you found a few other people who would also benefit and form a activist group?
