if you mean technically good, of course. look at xo, we've got tons of people who would probably be good technical lawyers but are total aspies and would have no hope at building a book of business. these people will get laid off in a downturn, or downright fired in an up or out model if they start getting too senior in a crowded department. law firms are businesses first and foremost. the supply of lawyers competent enough to do the work significantly outweighs the demand. soft skills are most important as you reach the top.
