1. "German" Alexander Zverev is #1, but each of Nadal and Federer are within 100 points

2. The only player not in the top 5 in both the Rankings and the Race is Dimitrov, who is ranked #5 but is only #10 in the race

3. Kevin Anderson is a surprising #7 in the Race

4. Kyle Edmund is the #1 Brit at #11

5. Shapovalov is the #1 Canadian

6. Djokovic is #25, having moved up 50 spots after his Rome SF. Over half of his points on the year are from Rome. He is one spot being Philipp Kohlschreiber

7. John Isner is the #1 American owing to his Miami win, but then things get weird. Tennys is next at #29 and then Tiafoe at #32. Jack Sock is #125 with only 220 points all year. Sock is so low that he's behind Americans J. Donaldson, D. Kudla, M. McDonald, R. Opelka, N. Rubin and T. Smyczek.

Yeah, Sock has been terrible this year other than doubles. Apropos of nothing, the top 9 Americans (through fritz at 70) are all playing this week - 6 in Geneva and 3 in Lyon. Time for an american clay renaissance!

xo Sandgren and Donaldson already through in Geneva.

Sock has to be *really* careful re his ranking. He's nowhere near qualifying for the WTF so that would be 400 points off his total in November. And at some point he can't just bank on doing well in Paris again. His ranking would actually be pretty terrible if not for those two events. I suppose the good news is that he isn't defending much in the other majors/masters this year. He's defending one win between W/USO and one win between Canada/Cincy/Shanghai.

Querrey will also fall off a cliff if he doesn’t do well at Wimbledon (sf) and the us open (qf) which are half his points, and doesn’t get results in the other tourneys.

yep, he's #57 in the race.

that's the good and bad thing about having 1-2 great results. they boost your ranking, but then the pressure is really on

tbf, it's better to be a player who has the game to get 1-2 great results every year or two even if your ranking fluctuates than to be some grind like nazi kohlschreiber who never has any hope of a good result anywhere.

Probably true especially from a money standpoint

A win at a tournament like Madrid nets you $1.2M whereas if you reach the quarters you get 18% of the points but only 12.5% of the cash.

The occasional big result probably gets you more endorsement cash too.

makes sense. as we've discussed, the big tourneys cant give too many points to winners just because they have to make the entire season interesting. if u gave 3000 points for a slam win, whoever wins the most slams is almost always going to be #1. i guess u can just throw extra cash around and still not make the entire season worthless.

6 Americans in the final 16 at Geneva (Noah Rubin made the draw as a qualifier). Only one out is Harrison (who lost to Tiafoe). I like Tennys in the bottom half.
