You'll have to share a place if you want to live in the city. You can maybe get a shit studio with no oven or stove for $1600. If you don't mind roommates you're looking at $1400-1800 depending on neighborhood and bathrooms. Food and going out add up like any city but if you cook you can keep those expenses down.
The other option is to live in Oakland where there's a non-trivial chance you will be a victim of a crime whether it be violent or not is really the question. Even in Oakland, you'll only be paying a 20% discount depending on public transit access and neighborhood. You'll have to be cool with being surrounded by scary looking Black people. Some just look scary because you're racist, many others are legit dangerous.
If the job is a stepping stone or there's upward mobility take it, live with roommates, whatever. |
