$100/mo, capped membership, with a co-working space as an add-on.

i feel like that model won't do well. either you want something really cheap or you want to pay for the elitism and the crowd.

I'm a NYSC member. It definitely isn't capped and is often crowded as hell. I'd love to move on to something better.

Sort of. They run deals several times a year where you can join a single club for like $20-30/month. So it is generally MM but I'd say barely. I think the OP really describes Lifetime Fitness, which I used to belong to when I lived somewhere else.

equinox isn't really elite anymore, at least the one i go to. what it is, is a huge rip-off, and i bet if you could provide 90% of the value for 60-70% of the cost, you'd get a lot of people wanting to join. the capped membership would address the problem of overcrowding at cheaper gyms, and the coworking space would be a compensating source of revenue to mitigage any losses from the cap.

Yeah, fair on membership capping. Does Equinox even do that?

It had the same ambiance as an LA/24 Hour, just less people. Didn't feel cool/hip in the same way Equinox does.

No AFAIK Equinox doesn't cap, they just raise prices every year.

Equipment is better, they have huge pools/hot tubs, etc. Equinox is Lifetime that is smaller, has fewer people and pushes the "rich lifestyle" ambiance more. I don't really care about the latter. If Lifetime was closer to me I'd be a member without any question.

The Lifetime I went to had awful bright white lights, basic equipment, but yeah, customer service was good. It felt like they were targeting boomers that didn't want to deal with crowds; my dream is millennials that want something in between equinox and 24, with working spaces, juice/sandwich bar, etc.

i doubt many people actually pay the full rate for equinox - many big employers have generous discounts (like me). It's a form of price discrimination that would make it harder for you to compete on price.

Plus I bet equinox has super strong customer loyalty. They've spoiled the fuck out of me. any gym without eucalyptus towels basically feels like the rikers island rec room.

[xo is full of human mistakes so feel free to insult me for liking equinox instead of saying why im wrong]

yeah i get $100/mo employer credit. you're right, i have no idea what percentage of their membership is paying discounted rates. as wagecucks would be a prime demographic, i should research that more.

funny about the loyalty, i feel like the amenities are not that great anymore. i don't see why you can't offer a similar ambiance at $50 less.

as a former Equinox member, you're paying less for the amenities and more for the crowd imo.

the crowd at Equinox was way more upscale, attractive, and into working out. far less riff raff than at cheaper places

is that worth the premium? meh, idk.
