False to a point. The key to weight loss is finding a method you can comply with that produces a sustained caloric deficit. To the extent fasting does that for some people, sure, but I’d wager they’re in the minority.

It’s suboptimal otherwise.

Do you think that’s a sustainable lifestyle?

Again: for people who can comply, great. What are you going to do about the people that can’t (i.e. most of them)? What are you going to do about people who stop fasting and return to their old habits and get fat again?

I think fasting is actually a very good way to do this.

-Fasting gives you a simple, absolute principle: on fasting days, you can't eat. You aren't trying to estimate how much you consumed and you don't need to worry about overindulging at a meal because you aren't having any

-Failures are less consequential. If you fail late on a fasting day, you're probably still at a deficit. Also, if you're trying to eat at, say, a 500-calorie per day deficit, a single pig out session for a party or holiday can offsetva week of work. With fasting, you can fix the damage of overindulgence in a single day and rapidly get back on track.

It's not for everybody, but most methods clearly fail and the vast majority of people have never even tried fasting.

My problem is that this is not a sustainable way to eat for a lifetime.

If you just want to rapidly shed weight, go for it. But keeping it off appears to be the real battle.

Of course it's sustainable. If you start to gain pounds, fast for a few days and you're right back where you started. That seems just as sustainable as any other tightly-controlled diet.

i am doing this now and am down 15 LBS this month.

i lost a lot of weight about 20 years ago like this.

its the only kind of diet (combined with keto) that a fat like me can follow. Abstinence is all that works. Otherwise, i can always justify that extra cookie (its just 100 calories) or that extra portion (ok its my deficit for the day ill make it up tomorrow).

Food for a fat is like alcohol for an alcoholic. Unfortunately, we can't abstain forever.

Just lol at the calories-in-calories-out dogma. Yes, that's part of it, but people gain weight from drinking zero calorie soda. It's about insulin. If you spike insulin, your body will not burn fat. That's why fasting and keto work.

Fasting + blue zone ancestral diet is cr for longevity and avoiding chronic illnesses

if youre a fatass keto can help get you to an ideal weight but at that point you should switch to blue zone ancestral diet

There are no civilizations other than eskimo that eat keto while all the blue zone diets have 65% of calories from whole food carbs, lots of veggies, little dairy and fish.
