I think he was talking about the kick from just the one gambling operation he was handing over to Christopher

Also have to factor in the perks like free booze, boosted goods, etc

i think goodfellas and sopranos give a pretty realistic portrayal of what life is like for lower level mob guys. they have to hustle and aren't necessarily that well off. plus they are fucking idiots who don't know how to manage their money and often spend everything they have.

what does the irish mob even do now?

perhaps best scene in sopranos is when they try to shake down a starbucks type place and the manager tells them "man I can't spend a dime with authorization from corporate"

so only like 12 weeks a year. that's $72K just for sitting on his ass while Christopher ran it.

Paulie had that plus his W2 from Barrone, which was probably like $60K. That's over $100K right there without any of his other bullshit.

Paulie isn’t low level though. He’s a captain. He’s the Cal shitlaw guru but for each CSLG there’s 10 Johnsmeyers.

Think of how many Matthew Bevilaqua or Jackie JR types get pushed out or worse and never make much aside from occasional score.

I'm a big sopranos fan. Back in the day when it was still on air, Chase gave an interview where he said the capos might pull down about $100k (depends on the crew; Aprile crew was an "ATM machine" so maybe 2-3x that) and Tony maybe about $1 million. In the final season when Tony is subtly feuding with Hesh, Hesh says Tony is only worth about $600k liquid or minus the house. Chase did not want the show to be the stylized portrayal like the Godfather but more like Goodfellas (as Chase said, Goodfellas was his "Koran").

I remember in one episode when Tony Blundetto gets the casino operation and Christopher complains about him getting a "$200k a year" cash cow

My guess is they probably did ok. $100k a year posted above seems low, but their spending habits all seemed a bit ridiculous; trips to AC every week, sports betting, cards, drugs, booze, women, $2k dinners, cars etc. so they pissed it away as soon as they got it.
