I do 90% of my grocery shopping at Walmart, but I get steaks from a mid range grocery store nearby as Walmart does not sell vacuum sealed steaks and the family pack steak prices are comparable to Walmart. I also buy bread at the grocery store as it is not much more expensive and is better and I buy eggs because the grocery store uses them as a loss leader and they are less expensive than Walmart.
GF eats a lot of veggies and fruits and I have noticed she is now trying to buy these things from the grocery store and not Walmart (I pay for groceries). They are significantly more expensive at the grocery store. I confronted her about this, and her explanation was either Walmart did not have the particular type of vegetable or the Walmart ones did not look good. She also has selected some pre-packaged veggies which are significantly more expensive than the loose bulk ones (she bought some multicolored peppers which were small which made them annoying when I used them as they took longer to cut — this bag was $5 whereas I could get an equal amount of green bell peppers for approximately $2, thereby negating almost the entire savings I obtained from purchasing great value brand Italian sausage in the bulk pack).
On the plus side, she has stopped drinking so I am saving a lot of money on that front, but I still feel this kind of spending could spiral out of control. I say this with a new pcar while she is quite happy with the beater I bought her and then spent a ton of time fixing up.
What should I do xoxo?

Came into thread ready to bash a shrew, but I think you are off base over a few vegetables. You are paying extra for the things you value (steaks and bread), but don't want to pony up a few extra bucks for better produce. I agree that buying the pre-chopped stuff is a waste of money. But depending on the store, produce quality can hugely vary. Cheap produce also spoils fast.
If she STOPPED drinking, and so did you, you should worry less about the price of a bell pepper, and more about making her feel good about her new healthy lifestyle. You are both spending wildly less money on shit in general without booze.

"It's starts with the multi-colored bell peppers, and before you know it it'll be Gucci purses and Loubitans!!!1!"
Drunkard clearly offered to buy the groceries. If he can't afford vegetables from a normal grocery store over rotting Walmart shit, perhaps he shouldn't have offered to play the part of biglaw daddy provider.
